PS. A funny anecdote is that various people at the Taj Mahal that day asked me to please be in their photo (I think that explains why I am holding my own hands as an expression of shyness). I was explained that they thought I was somebody important, they thought so because of the dress I was wearing, which was a custom made dress I had commisioned  a day before in Jaipur… aaaah life anecdotes. I guess that also explains this simple being happy smile :).

I love how some light shed on a little leaf can turn something rather ordinary onto something extraordinary.  A little piece of nature to add romanticism to the day (or night).

Vintage birds

I love this book because of its simplicity (very Chanel), the insight it has on Coco Chanel and her spirit, and of course wonderful photography.

The book explores the camellia (Chanel flower on the cover), the Chanel suit, jewelry (BEAUTIFUL and breathtaking pieces there), the fragrances and the little black dress. Going from past to present.

To me it is fascinating to read a book that many people would call on “fashion” but that really is much, much more than that, it is part of the world’s history, of who we are today in terms of how we dress and how we think, how we move and how we behave, how this revolutionary woman changed the aesthetics for women and why we are not wearing the oppresive corsets these days…

This book on Chanel reached my hands in a not very glamorous way (Coco would have not approved, for sure). The postman said the books were so very heavy, the carton broke (I bought them on Amazon, so they travelled all the way from The USA) hence he had to put them in a bag, and there was no other bag but one of those they use for potatoes (yes, those ones you have seen at the market). So… (sigh) that is how this beautiful piece arrived home and… the paradox had us laughing for a day :).

I love the milestone in the history of art that still life represents, the style, the composition, the creation and the ability of artists to portray that composition.

And I love the inspiration that flowers bring to one’s life. Simple roses (because, yes, they have this simplicity about them that make them their beauty universally understood) that can dramatically change one’s day.

And I love how seeing a pear with leaves on (a rare thing to see when you shop pears from the supermarket) can bring a fresh vibe of reality, that reality that reminds that pears do actually come from trees and not from bags :).

Finally, I love how my creating process _eventhough recreating a classic as still life is_ changes day by day.

Dreaming of paradise

New projects always get me dreaming of new places to visit, new trips, paradisiacal sites, more beauty… in two words: new journeys.

Some time ago I read that Scott Schuman wanted to be the next Karl Lagerfeld. What he had not realized at the time is that he could be the first Scott Schuman in history (Scott Schuman from The Sartorialist, if you have not checked him out yet, I’d advise you do).
Sometimes we think we should be like someone we admire, but we do not realize we are already who we are.
Like me, I wanted to be a painter, but I guess I could not be a frustrated painter anymore… it seems like I keep “painting” every single day I photograph, without realizing what I am doing, maybe I am painting after all…

I took this pic on the road, while driving. I love how my eyes have been trained all these years to see the world in frames, frames that are captured on the go many times. Instants that will last forever in my mind.
